Designing with Kids in Mind

Want to great a home with high impact and design but find it hard to do with all the kids toys and daily clutter. Here are a few ways to help keep everything in it's place but always within reach for fun!

1. Start with your entry: creating a space off your main entrance to hold shoes, bags, keys, mail is number one. Wether your main entrance is your front door or garage door having a space to unload at the end of a long day will help keep the mess from moving further into your home. Baskets are not only decorative but are a great home for shoes, handbags, gloves, dog leash, tog toys, it's limitless.

2. Living Rooms can pull double duty: Since most of the action in our home occurs in living rooms everything must have multiple purposes. Baskets are great to hold remotes, throw blankets, toys, video games, even diapers and wipes if your in a pinch or have a two story home :)
When decorating your shelves if you are like me and don't want just anything but don't know where to start. Here are a few things to remember.
- Decorate with your kids art, it will add color and they will feel a sense of accomplishment that their work is on display
- Jars are a great way to display items your family collects in travels or adventures. Rocks, shells, pins, etc.
- Mix it up. Play with different textures, metals and colors.

Where has time gone!

I can't believe how crazy the last few weeks have been. Good news is I'm back and I have so many exciting this to share with you all! I have a new addition to our family, yes you heard it, we have a spring garden started! Okay so maybe its more of an expansion to our family than addition....
Starting a garden is quite a commitment but who doesn't love the outcome of fresh vegetables or herbs from your own home?

Here's what I have right now.
- cilantro
- basil
- tomato
- zuchinni
- kale (these are still in seed pods)
- brussel sprouts (these are still in seed pods)

These are all items that I keep on hand at home so it makes sense to grow these items since they will be used weekly.

If you want to get your own garden started but not sure what to grow or if they can be grown indoors or outside, here is a great blog that has a chart showing some of the most common garden fruits and vegetables and when they can be grown.

I also posted a while back about herb containers that would be great for indoors, well shorty after that post I found a great deal on a pack of 8 for under $13! See affiliate link below.

Three Easy Ways to Hang Artwork

Here are three great ways to hang artwork quick and easy!
Don't forget to install drywall anchors as needed for each project. Asking a professional at the hardware store which anchor would be most appropriate for the type of object you would like to hang considering the weight and size is always a good idea.
World Market has a great selection of art, abstract, landscape, and some of my favorite are life style candid photos.

Blueberry canvas - i am so in love with how fun this is, they have an assortment of similar options and would look so great in a laundry room or kids play room!

Dreaming of a farmhouse!

I think it's safe to say that the farmhouse style is not going anywhere. It has taken the idea of something old into some re-used. From dated to re-imagined. The ability to mix old with new with what I think gives this style one of the most desirable qualities. Here are three easy ways to make your house feel more like a farmhouse.

1. Go with the basic colors (or rather lack of color). You can never go wrong with white, grey or
black.

2.  Bring character to your space with wood. Wether you give the wood a dark stain, light stain, or even paint it wood gives the space such a great architectural feature.

3. Bring your herbs indoors. Herbs are one of the easiest plants that can survive indoors and that add a great aesthetic to any space especially a kitchen. They can be wall hung,  on a side table or whatever creative idea you can imagine!

Love Old Home Charm?

Who doesn't love the charm of an older home with character? The only fall back with an older home is they tend to be smaller in square footage with little to no closet space. With a few modifications to make some standard furniture items you see around your house you can have the best of both worlds.

1. In a master bedroom that is tight on closet space, making use of space underneath your bed. Drawers can come in handy for every day items that you don't want to store in another part of the house.

2. Built in side tables - most times space above side tables are never used. Maximize you storage and create built in storage side tables!

3. Utilize your walls - if you have the ability to build in open or closed storage under a stair or between walls this is one of most creative ways to create functional storage.

Disclaimer - make sure you hire a licensed professional before you open up any walls. HGTV makes everything look more simple that it is in real life. Save yourself the stress and get it done right the first time.

Shed Last Years Baggage With These Storage Tips

Spring time is the perfect time to shed all the baggage from last year and great prepared for the fun on this year. Being organized is the best way to spend less time indoors and more time doing what you want. Here are tips I use to help stay on track. 1. Make a Plan - start with one area at a time, making smaller goals will help the process not feel so overwhelming. 2. Sketch it out - sometimes it is hard to know what to buy without first knowing what sizes will work in each space. First quickly sketch a plan of how deep the area you are working in. Secondly, measure the openings, so if you have a pantry how much space is available in-between each row. 3. Take inventory - This does not mean that you need to write down a list of everything that is in that area, but going through everything that is in there will help you see if there are items you haven't seen in year. That might be a good indication that it can be donated (hint hint) 4.See it - go online and get inspired, there are so many organizational systems and containers so find one you like. The container store and ikea have inexpensive and easy to install storage options. https://www.containerstore.com/elfa/index.htmhttp://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/secondary_storage/11466/5. Install and enjoy!

What inspires you?

Is anyone else dreaming of days where outdoor fun begins? Well the good news is those days are right around the corner! With spring in full swing it is time to get inspired, start cleaning your outdoor entertaining area and start shopping!!!

I am totally inspired by this mixture of neutral creams, tans with pops of blues. Remember when searching for outdoor furniture and accessories to consider if it will be directly exposed to the elements or covered under a patio. Picking a resin material would be a better option long term for any outdoor furniture considering all natural wood will breakdown quicker over time exposed to extreme outdoor conditions.
